More About Slowpitch Softball Bats
SPC Sports stocks one of the deepest slowpitch bat selections available online, with current-season models from DeMarini, Dudley, Miken, Worth, Anderson, Louisville Slugger, and Easton. We carry bats approved for USSSA/240, ASA/USA, NSA, GSL, and senior league play, in composite, alloy, hybrid, and wood constructions. Whether you play in a competitive USSSA rec league, a church league on Sunday afternoons, or a senior circuit with SSUSA or SPA rules, the right bat for your game is here.
Slowpitch vs. Fastpitch Bats: Why It Matters
Slowpitch bats are built differently than fastpitch bats and are not interchangeable. Slowpitch bats are typically 34 inches long with a 2.25-inch barrel diameter. The swing weight runs heavier than fastpitch, and most models are available in drop 5 to drop 8 weights to accommodate different strength levels. The barrel is optimized for a ball arriving at 25 to 35 mph on a high arc, not a 60-mph fastpitch delivery. Using the wrong bat type in a game is a rules violation.
Shop by Certification
Certification is the first thing to confirm before buying. Not all bats are legal in all leagues.
USSSA/240 bats carry the USSSA certification stamp and are required in USSSA-sanctioned leagues. The "240" refers to the ball compression standard used in combination with these bats. This is the most competitive slowpitch category we carry, with models from DeMarini, Dudley, Miken, and Anderson.
ASA/USA bats are approved for USA Softball and ASA-sanctioned recreational and competitive leagues. These are the most widely used bats across co-ed, recreational, and lower-level competitive leagues in the country. Brands like DeMarini, Worth, and Anderson cover this category well in our catalog.
ASA and USSSA dual-stamped bats carry both certifications, making them a versatile option if you play in more than one league with different rules. Many players who move between leagues through a season prefer a dual-stamp bat to avoid carrying multiple bats.
Senior Softball
Senior softball bats are built for SSUSA (Senior Softball USA) and SPA (Softball Players Association) leagues, which are organized by age division starting at age 40. Senior bats must meet lower compression limits than standard slowpitch bats. Dudley Lightning Legend models are among the most respected options in this category and are consistently in stock at SPC Sports.
Wood Bats
Wood slowpitch bats are used in wood-bat-only leagues and by players who prefer the feel and tradition of a wood bat. Louisville Slugger maple models are the most common option in our inventory.
Balanced vs. End-Loaded
This is the second major decision after certification. Balanced bats distribute weight evenly through the barrel for a faster, more controlled swing. Most contact hitters and players in recreational leagues swing balanced. End-loaded bats shift extra mass toward the barrel end cap, generating more power at contact if you have the strength and bat speed to handle the swing weight. Most end-loaded slowpitch models run 0.5 to 1 ounce of added weight toward the end cap.
Bat Accessories
Pair your bat with a grip tape, batting gloves, or a replacement end cap from our bat accessories section. We also run a bat trade-in program if you want to put your old bat toward the cost of an upgrade.
