Preguntas frecuentes

  • Most adult slowpitch players use a glove in the 12.5 to 14-inch range. Outfielders typically prefer 12.5 to 14 inches for a deep pocket to secure the larger 12-inch softball. Infielders generally use 12 to 12.5 inches for quicker ball transfer.

  • You can play recreational slowpitch with a baseball glove, but it is not ideal. Baseball gloves are built for a 9-inch ball and have a shallower, narrower pocket that makes it harder to secure a 12-inch slowpitch ball cleanly. A glove designed for a 12-inch softball will perform noticeably better.

  • Both are built for 11 or 12-inch softballs, but fastpitch gloves often have a narrower wrist and smaller finger stalls to fit the female hand. Slowpitch gloves tend to be slightly larger overall and are built to a unisex adult hand measurement. Either type can technically be used in slowpitch play, but a slowpitch-specific model usually fits adult male players more comfortably.

  • Trapeze and modified trapeze web patterns are the most popular for outfielders because they maximize pocket depth and allow secure securing of line drives and deep fly balls. H-web is also popular for its visibility through the web when tracking balls in the sun or lights.

  • We carry Wilson, Rawlings, Nokona, Mizuno, and others. Each brand offers different leather grades, web patterns, and price points.

  • Apply a light coat of glove conditioner to the entire glove. Form the pocket by placing a softball in it and squeezing the glove closed. Playing catch every day for one to two weeks is the most effective break-in method. Some players accelerate the process by tying the glove around a ball with a rubber band overnight to hold the pocket shape.

  • Many slowpitch players find batting gloves useful for maintaining grip control and protecting against blisters, especially when using an end-loaded bat. On a long tournament day with multiple games, batting gloves also reduce hand fatigue from vibration on mishits.

  • Infielders typically prefer an I-web, H-web, or single-post web for faster ball transfer to the throwing hand. Deep pocket webs common in outfield gloves slow down the transfer and are not practical for infield work where getting rid of the ball quickly is a priority.

  • Yes. Left-handed throw (LHT) gloves, which are worn on the right hand by left-handed throwers, are available for most models. When ordering, confirm the throw orientation on the product listing. Left-hand throw models are sometimes listed separately or as a variant under the same product.

  • Clean the glove with a damp cloth to remove field dirt and dust. Apply a thin coat of leather conditioner to the palm, back, and finger channels. Store the glove with a softball in the pocket secured with a rubber band in a cool, dry location. Do not store gloves in a hot car or garage, as heat dries out and cracks leather permanently.

  • Synthetic gloves are lighter, break in faster, and cost less, but they tend to lose their shape faster than full-grain leather models under regular competitive use. For serious competitive players who play multiple times per week, a leather glove is a better long-term investment. Synthetic models work well for occasional recreational play.

  • Most adult male slowpitch outfielders find a 13 to 14-inch glove most comfortable for the larger 12-inch softball. Players with larger hands may prefer the 14-inch end of that range. Infielders typically drop down to 12 to 12.5 inches for faster transfer.

  • Most batting gloves last one to two seasons of regular use. Signs of wear include thinning or tearing in the palm padding, worn-through grip texture on the fingers, and velcro straps that no longer hold. Replacing them when grip performance starts to decline is more important than any fixed time interval.

  • Nokona gloves are handmade in Nocona, Texas from American bison, buffalo, and kangaroo leather. They are known for exceptional durability and a traditional break-in feel that produces a glove that conforms tightly to the individual player's hand over time. They are more expensive than most alternatives and take longer to break in, but many longtime players consider them the best-built gloves available.

  • Wide-body gloves have a wider palm and finger channel construction that accommodates players with broader hands or those who prefer more coverage across the palm. Standard-width gloves fit a typical hand measurement. If you find standard gloves too narrow across the palm or feel cramped in the finger stalls, a wide-body model may be a better fit.
