    Preguntas frecuentes

    • Glove size is measured from the heel to the tip of the index finger. Youth players ages 6 to 10 use 9 to 11 inches. Players 11 to 14 use 11 to 11.75 inches for infield and 12 to 12.5 for outfield. High school and adult infielders use 11.25 to 11.75 inches and outfielders use 12.5 to 13 inches. First basemen use a 12 to 13-inch mitt with a single break.

    • Infield gloves are smaller (11 to 11.75 inches) with shallower pockets and open web patterns for fast ball transfer. Outfield gloves are larger (12.5 to 13 inches) with deep pockets and trapeze or H-web patterns to secure fly balls and line drives. Using an outfield glove at shortstop slows down the double-play transfer meaningfully at the competitive level.

    • Middle infielders typically prefer an I-web or H-web for fast, clean ball transfers. Some players use a modified single-post web. The goal is an open enough web that the ball can be found and retrieved quickly without tangling in the webbing, combined with a shallow enough pocket to get the ball into the throwing hand in one motion.

    • Trapeze and modified trapeze webs are the most common outfield choices because they maximize pocket depth without obscuring visibility through the web when tracking fly balls in sky or stadium lights. H-web is also popular for its balance of visibility and pocket security.

    • A first base mitt has no finger dividers, a heavily padded rounded design, a single break across the palm, and an extended heel for scooping short-hop throws from infielders. It is built to handle high-velocity throws and in-the-dirt balls that a standard glove cannot absorb safely. First base mitts are required equipment for that position in organized play.

    • Entry-level gloves use treated cowhide that is softer out of the box but less durable. Mid-range gloves use top-grain leather that balances break-in time and durability. Premium gloves from Wilson and Rawlings use Pro Stock steerhide or Horween leather that takes longer to break in but maintains its structure and shape through years of heavy use.

    • The A1000 uses a slightly softer leather and a less structured design than the A2000, making it easier to break in and better suited for younger or developing players. The A2000 uses Pro Stock leather that takes longer to break in but produces a more durable, performance-optimized glove that many serious players consider the best mass-produced glove available. The A2000 is approximately $100 to $150 more expensive.

    • Pro Stock leather is Wilson's term for the same hide used to make gloves for Major League Baseball players. It is selected for consistency of thickness, grain, and durability rather than for softness. Pro Stock gloves take four to eight weeks of regular use to fully break in but maintain their shape and performance far longer than softer alternatives.

    • No. Softball gloves are built for a 11 or 12-inch softball and have pockets that are too deep and too wide for the 9-inch baseball. Using a softball glove in organized baseball is also a rules violation. Baseball-specific gloves are required in all organized leagues.

    • Right-handed throwers wear the glove on the left hand, which is called a regular or left-hand throw (LHT) model. Left-handed throwers wear the glove on the right hand, which is a right-hand throw (RHT) model. Ordering the wrong orientation is the most common glove purchasing mistake. Confirm the throwing hand on the product listing before adding to cart.

    • The Heart of the Hide (HOH) is Rawlings' premium player's glove line, made from the same select top-grade steer hide used for professional players' gloves. HOH gloves are used at every level from high school through Major League Baseball. They require significant break-in but are among the most durable and well-fitted gloves available at the competitive level.

    • Game-ready means the glove arrives with minimal break-in required and can be used immediately. Many synthetic and some treated-leather gloves are advertised as game-ready. Premium Pro Stock leather gloves are not game-ready and require two to six weeks of regular use before they perform at their best.

    • Clean it with a dry cloth after each use to remove dirt. Apply a thin coat of glove conditioner two to three times per season, not after every use. Store the glove with a ball in the pocket tied with a rubber band between uses to maintain the pocket shape. Keep it out of extreme heat and direct sunlight.

    • Rawlings, Wilson, and Mizuno all produce strong youth options at accessible price points. The Rawlings R9 and Player Preferred series offer quality leather at mid-range prices. Wilson A1000 is an upgrade option for more serious youth players. Nokona produces handmade youth gloves at a premium price point for families who want durability and longevity.

    • A quality leather glove with proper care lasts three to six years of regular game and practice use. Premium Pro Stock leather gloves can last ten years or more. Synthetic gloves typically last one to three seasons. Replacing the lacing every one to two years on a leather glove significantly extends the glove's useful life.
