More About Fastpitch Softball Apparel

What a player wears affects how they move and how long they stay comfortable through doubleheaders and tournament weekends. SPC Sports carries fastpitch softball apparel from Mizuno, Champro, Easton, Under Armour, and other brands, covering pants, shorts, shirts, and caps in youth and adult sizing. Everything in this section is built for the demands of game and practice play, not just for looks.

Fastpitch Softball Pants

Softball pants take more abuse than almost any other piece of apparel. Sliding reinforcement at the knee and seat is the most important feature to look for. Most competitive-level pants use a double-knit polyester with a dirt-resistant finish. We carry both full-length pants with elastic ankles and open-hem styles, in solid colors and pinstripes, from youth small through adult extra-large.

Mizuno is one of the strongest brands in our softball pants lineup, with specific women's cuts that fit the female hip-to-waist ratio more accurately than unisex sizing. See our Mizuno pants collection for current availability.

Fastpitch Softball Shorts

Softball shorts are used primarily in practice and warm-weather recreational play. They typically use the same double-knit fabric as pants with an elastic waistband and inseam lengths from 4 to 9 inches depending on the brand and style. Compression-style shorts are also popular for wearing under pants for added coverage and muscle support during games.

Softball Shirts and Jerseys

Fastpitch shirts in our collection include practice shirts, performance tees, and game jerseys in moisture-wicking fabrics. For custom team jerseys, see our custom uniform builder where you can design your full team set online.

Caps

Fastpitch softball caps are typically six-panel structured caps in team colors. We carry both fitted and adjustable styles in youth and adult sizes. Matching your cap to your pants and jersey is easiest when ordering full team kits through our uniform program.

Building a Complete On-Field Look

For teams looking to outfit a full roster, we recommend pairing apparel from this section with our custom uniform program, cleats, and gear bags from our fastpitch bags section. Coordinated team looks are available on a per-order basis with a submitted quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Double-knit polyester with a moisture-wicking and dirt-resistant finish is the standard at the competitive level. It holds its shape through sliding, dries quickly, and resists abrasion from dirt infields better than single-knit or cotton blends. Some players prefer pants with a small percentage of spandex for added stretch and range of motion in the legs.

  • Sizing varies by brand. Women's-specific cuts from Mizuno and some Champro models tend to fit the female hip-to-waist ratio more accurately than unisex sizing. Always check the individual brand's size chart using waist and hip measurements before ordering, particularly for team orders where exchanges are more complicated.

  • Most adult fastpitch pants come in full-length styles with an open hem or elastic ankle. Some brands offer an inseam length option (short, regular, tall). Younger players in youth sizes use a separate sizing scale. If you have a non-standard inseam, measure from the crotch seam to the desired hem length and compare to the size chart.

  • Open-hem (also called full-length) pants have a finished hem at the ankle that falls over the top of the cleat. Elastic-ankle pants have an elasticized cuff that gathers at the ankle above the sock, creating a similar look to a traditional knicker cut but longer. Style preference and league tradition vary significantly by team and region.

  • Yes. Many fastpitch players wear compression shorts or sliding shorts under their pants for additional coverage on slides, muscle support, and comfort. Sliding shorts also absorb some of the abrasion on slide-side thighs that pants alone do not fully protect.

  • Practice shirts are typically performance-knit or moisture-wicking polyester T-shirts or three-quarter sleeve shirts. Game jerseys are either sublimated one-piece prints or tackle twill constructions on a polyester base, with team name, number, and logo. Many teams wear practice-specific tops that are different from their game uniforms to preserve the game jerseys for competition.

  • Most softball and baseball caps use the same six-panel structured construction with a polyester or wool-blend fabric, a sweatband, and a closure at the back (fitted or adjustable). There is no structural difference between a softball cap and a baseball cap. Team color and logo are the primary purchasing factors.

  • Sublimated jerseys print the entire design directly into the polyester fabric during manufacturing. The graphics will not crack, peel, or fade and allow for complex multi-color gradients. Tackle twill applies fabric letters and numbers sewn onto the jersey base. Tackle twill has a raised, textured feel and is considered more traditional. Sublimated is lighter weight and allows more design flexibility.

  • Yes. Our stock apparel section carries pants, shorts, shirts, and caps in common team colors that can be purchased individually without a full custom order. For jerseys with numbers and a team name, the custom program is required.

  • Some softball shorts designed for game use have reinforced inner thighs or shorts liners for sliding. Standard practice shorts typically do not. If a player will be sliding in shorts rather than pants, look for models that specifically mention sliding reinforcement or pair them with sliding shorts underneath.

  • Fastpitch performance shirts are available in short-sleeve, three-quarter sleeve, and long-sleeve styles. Three-quarter sleeves are popular in softball because they provide some arm coverage against sun and field abrasion without the full restriction of a long sleeve in warm weather.

  • A batting practice jersey (BP jersey) is a lighter, looser version of the game jersey, typically worn during warm-ups, bullpen sessions, and pre-game hitting practice. They allow players to stay in team gear during warm-ups without putting wear on the primary game jersey.

  • Most polyester softball apparel can be machine dried on a low heat setting. High heat causes polyester to shrink, fade, and set stains permanently. Line drying or tumble drying on low is the safest method for preserving color and fit. Check the garment label for specific care instructions.

  • Compression shirts are form-fitting moisture-wicking undershirts worn beneath the game or practice jersey. They manage sweat, provide light muscle support, and reduce chafing. In cold weather, they add a layer of warmth without restricting movement. Most players wear a short or long-sleeve compression shirt under their game jersey year-round.

  • Both options are available. Fitted caps require an accurate head circumference measurement for the right fit. Adjustable caps with a velcro, snap, or stretch-fit closure are more forgiving and are the most practical choice for team orders where individual measurements are not always collected in advance.
