The Easton HELLCAT Large/XLarge Slowpitch Fielding Leg Guards (HELCATLGLX) are slowpitch softball leg guards built specifically for pitchers and infielders who need to move quickly in the field while staying protected from hard-hit shots at every velocity exit speed the modern slowpitch game produces. The TruHinge thigh guard with 3DShox material articulates naturally with your knee through every fielding motion, adjustable and removable components give you a custom-tailored fit for your exact leg, and specific right and left leg molds create an anatomical fit that standard symmetrical leg guards simply cannot match. Available in black at SPC Sports.

The TruHinge thigh guard is built from 3DShox high-tech impact-absorbing material that articulates fluidly with your knee as you move, so the guard follows your leg's natural motion through every squat, lunge, fielding reach, and throwing motion without fighting your mechanics or restricting your range of motion.

3DShox padding in the thigh guard absorbs and disperses the force of hard-hit balls before it reaches your knee and thigh, so a sharp line drive or comebacker that catches the top of the guard does not put you on the ground or take you out of the game.

The adjustable and removable shin pad gives you customizable placement and protection coverage along the shin, so you can position it exactly where you need it most for your fielding position, your pitching style, and your personal comfort preference.

An optional shin extension offers added length adjustment below the standard shin pad, so taller players and those who want maximum shin-to-ankle coverage can dial in a fully personalized fit that covers every inch of their lower leg from knee to foot.

Specific right and left leg molds create a true anatomical fit that wraps naturally around each leg, so the guards sit flush against your leg contours and stay in position through every movement instead of rotating, gaping, or sliding the way symmetrical designs do over the course of a long game or tournament weekend.

The four-part strap system -- three hook-and-loop and one buckled strap -- secures the guards firmly in place throughout every fielding motion and throwing position, so the guards never shift, rotate, or bounce during play no matter how aggressively you move in the field.

The L/XL size measures 17.5 inches from knee to ankle with a 19-inch knee-to-extension measurement, giving larger players the full lower-leg coverage they need from the knee all the way down to the ankle on every pitch.

This product comes with a 1 Year Manufacturer Warranty.

    FAQ

What positions are the HELCATLGLX designed for? These leg guards are built specifically for slowpitch softball pitchers and infielders who need lower-body protection while maintaining full mobility on every fielding play and throwing motion.

What is TruHinge and why does it matter? TruHinge is a hinged thigh guard technology built from 3DShox impact-absorbing material that articulates naturally with your knee as you move, so the guard follows your leg instead of fighting it -- giving you better protection and better mobility at the same time.

Can the shin pad and extension be removed or adjusted? Yes. The shin pad is adjustable and removable for custom placement, and the shin extension is optional so you can add or remove it based on your body size, position, and personal preference for coverage.

FAQs

  • A well-struck slowpitch softball can leave the bat at 80 to 90 mph or faster. At the typical pitching distance of 46 to 50 feet, the pitcher has less than half a second to react to a line drive back up the middle. Pitcher protection gear exists to close that reaction gap and reduce injury risk, particularly for adult and senior-age players whose reaction time is slower than younger athletes.

  • The main types are pitching screens (L-screens or straight panel screens set up in front of the pitching position), protective pitching masks (face guards attached to a helmet), and body shields (padded chest guards worn by the pitcher). Many competitive pitchers combine a screen with a personal mask for maximum coverage.

  • Most recreational and competitive slowpitch leagues allow pitching screens. Some leagues prohibit them for pace-of-play reasons or field setup constraints. Check with your specific league director before bringing a screen to a game. Senior softball organizations are increasingly mandating some form of pitcher protection in their rules.

  • Most adult slowpitch players use an L-screen or straight panel measuring 7 feet tall by 7 feet wide or larger. For game use, a larger panel provides more coverage from wide-angle line drives. For practice setups with less space, a 5 by 5 or 6 by 6 foot panel may be sufficient.

  • Yes. No rule in most slowpitch organizations prohibits a pitcher from wearing a protective mask or helmet during a game. Helmet-mounted face guards and standalone pitching masks are both legal in most leagues. Some senior organizations now encourage or require this.

  • Most L-screens and panel screens use a weighted base or ground stakes for stability in normal conditions. In moderate to strong wind, additional weight bags or ground anchors prevent tipping. Check the product listing for stability features and compatible anchor accessories before purchasing if you play in an exposed or windy venue.

  • Most L-screens fold flat and include a carry bag with a shoulder strap. Some roll on built-in wheels. Fully collapsed dimensions vary by model, so check the product listing for transportation dimensions if you have limited vehicle space.

  • Most full-size pitching screens weigh between 20 and 40 pounds depending on frame material (steel vs. aluminum) and net size. Aluminum frames are lighter and easier to transport. Steel frames are more durable but heavier. Consider how far you carry the screen from your vehicle to the field when choosing between the two.

  • Requirements vary by organization and age division. Some senior softball organizations now mandate pitcher protection in their rules for specific age groups. Check with your specific league or SSUSA/SPA chapter before the season starts. We recommend protective gear for all senior-division pitchers regardless of whether it is formally required.

  • A pitching mask is a lightweight face guard designed to protect the pitcher from line drives. It is typically lighter and less bulky than a catcher's mask and is designed to attach to a standard batting helmet. Catcher's masks are built for repeated close-range foul tips and have heavier padding than is practical for a pitcher to wear during fielding movements.

  • Yes. Many teams use L-screens for batting practice to protect the pitcher or coach delivering pitches. This is one of the most common uses of L-screens outside of game play. The screen sets up behind the pitcher position and absorbs line drives hit back up the middle.

  • A pitcher's body shield is a padded or hard-panel chest protector designed to absorb impact from line drives that get through or around a pitching screen. Some models cover only the chest and stomach. Others extend to cover the thighs and groin. They are typically lighter and less restrictive than a full catcher's chest protector but provide meaningful protection for the most vulnerable areas.

  • Pitching screens provide good protection against line drives hit directly back at the pitcher from the center of the field. They are less effective against balls hit sharply at an angle, which can arrive from outside the screen's coverage zone. Combining a screen with a personal mask provides better overall coverage for all hit angles.

  • Most pitching screens are sold as complete units including both the frame and the net. Replacement nets for worn or torn screens may be available separately from some manufacturers. Check the product listing or contact us to confirm what is included and whether replacement nets are available for a specific model.

  • Wipe the steel or aluminum frame after outdoor use to prevent rust, particularly at pivot points and ground contact areas. Inspect the net regularly for fraying or holes that reduce protection. Store the screen indoors or under a cover when not in use to extend the life of both the net and the frame hardware.
